Remembering Stephen James McLeod "Maca"

Story

28/11/1960 - 30/07/2022

Only 61 years old but each year filled to the brim.

With huge sadness we announce that our beautiful, brave, loving, funny, Steve passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family and close friends.

Steve you fought your battle against a dreadful cancer with calm acceptance and a strength of will that few can emulate.

We'll miss you terribly but you'll always be in our hearts and minds, as will your favourite, typical-Steve-saying: "it is what it is".

In lieu of flowers, donations to the NeuroSurgical Research Foundation - which will direct funds solely for brain tumour research - will be gratefully accepted.

NeuroSurgical Research Foundation

The NeuroSurgical Research Foundation funds world-class medical research into diseases and injuries of the brain, spinal cord and nervous system. We support researchers working to discover new treatments, improve patient outcomes and save the lives of children and adults affected by neurosurgical conditions.
Our research includes:
• Brain tumours – developing better treatments and understanding how cancer invades the brain.
• Parkinson's disease – advancing research to diagnose earlier and slow disease progression.
• Stroke, brain haemorrhage and aneurysms – improving surgical treatments and outcomes.
• Spinal cord injury – improving surgical treatment, outcomes and quality of life following injury.
• Traumatic brain injury – developing treatments to reduce life-threatening brain swelling.
